Listening to the album right now. Got it off itunes.
I was skeptical of this album at first, as the Yes and No ep was very strange. The only track I liked off it was Yes and No, and I feared that it would be the only good song on the album.
But I have a feeling this album is going to grow on me more and more. It's a much harder listen than Big Beautiful Sky- It demands your attention, to find the melody developing in each track. None of the songs are instantly catchy like the first album, at least not until their choruses kick in. The samples used in percussion and all through the tracks are very strange sounds- spacey, blippy, burp-ey. It's like if bubbly underwater sewer aliens were told to make music, and also given Strean's vocals to play with. And somehow, it's kind of amazing.
It's not what I expected for their second album at all. It's miles away from BBS, and still very far from the Songs for Superhero's EP, which I thought the new album would be an expansion of. I liked that sound too. But there's no Superhero's songs on here. It's an entirely different everything. Somewhere between Bjork and Aphex Twin- Niether of which I really love, but somehow Colors finds the best aspects of both and combines then in a Venus Hum flavor.
What am I trying to say in all... I like it, though I probably shouldn't. It's wierd and mind-expanding. It's not pop. It's totally unexpected.
What do you guys think?
